Domain Pricing and Renewals
Domain names are a crucial part of your online presence. Understanding how domain pricing and renewals work at SillyHost will help you manage your domains effectively and avoid unexpected expirations.
Domain Registration Pricing
Domain prices vary depending on the extension (TLD) you choose. Common pricing examples include:
- .co.uk – Competitively priced for UK-based businesses and individuals.
- .com – The most popular global extension.
- .org – Ideal for organisations and non-profits.
- .net – A popular alternative to .com.
First-year registration prices may differ from renewal prices. Some extensions offer introductory discounts for the first year. Always check the renewal price before registering to understand your ongoing costs.
Domain Renewal Process
Domains are typically registered for 1 to 2 years at a time. Before your domain expires, you will receive multiple renewal reminders:
- 30 days before expiry – First renewal notice.
- 14 days before expiry – Second reminder with invoice generated.
- 7 days before expiry – Final urgent reminder.
What Happens If Your Domain Expires
If your domain is not renewed before the expiry date, it enters a grace period during which you can still renew it at the standard price. After the grace period, the domain enters a redemption period where an additional fee is charged to recover it. Eventually, the domain is released for public registration.
Auto-Renewal
We strongly recommend enabling auto-renewal for your domains to prevent accidental expiration. You can enable this in the domain management section of your client area. Ensure your payment method is up to date for auto-renewals to process successfully.
