How Marketplace Pricing Works
Understanding the fee structure is important for both buyers and sellers on the SillyHost Marketplace. This guide explains all the costs involved so there are no surprises.
Fees for Buyers
As a buyer, the pricing is simple:
- Product price – The price set by the seller, displayed on the product page
- Handling fee – A small processing fee of 2% is added at checkout to cover payment processing costs
- Tax – VAT or sales tax may be applied depending on your location, in compliance with local regulations
- No hidden costs – The total shown at checkout is the final amount you will be charged
Fees for Sellers
The SillyHost Marketplace charges a commission on each sale to cover platform maintenance, payment processing, marketing, and support infrastructure:
- Standard commission rate – SillyHost takes 20% of each sale. The remaining 80% goes to the seller.
- Exclusive sellers – If you sell your products exclusively on the SillyHost Marketplace (not on competing platforms), the commission is reduced to 15%, meaning you keep 85%.
- No listing fees – There is no charge to list a product on the marketplace. You only pay commission when a sale is made.
- No monthly fees – There is no subscription or monthly fee to maintain your seller account.
Example Calculation
If you sell a WordPress theme priced at £49.00 as a standard seller:
- Marketplace commission (20%): £9.80
- Your earnings: £39.20
As an exclusive seller with the reduced 15% rate:
- Marketplace commission (15%): £7.35
- Your earnings: £41.65
Payout Schedule
- Payouts are processed on the 1st and 15th of each month
- There is a £20 minimum payout threshold — earnings below this amount roll over to the next payout cycle
- Payouts can be sent via PayPal or bank transfer
- PayPal payouts arrive within 1-2 business days; bank transfers take 3-5 business days
Refund Impact
If a buyer is granted a refund, the commission is returned to the seller and the full product price is deducted from the seller's balance. Refunded amounts will be reflected in your next payout statement.
