SillyHost Server Maintenance
Regular server maintenance is essential to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. SillyHost performs both scheduled and emergency maintenance to keep your hosting environment running smoothly.
Types of Maintenance
Scheduled Maintenance
Planned maintenance activities include:
- Operating system updates: Security patches and kernel updates applied monthly.
- Software updates: Updates to web server software (Apache/Nginx), PHP, MySQL, and other server components.
- Hardware maintenance: Disk replacements, memory upgrades, and network equipment servicing.
- Security patches: Critical vulnerability patches applied as soon as they are released.
Emergency Maintenance
Unscheduled maintenance may occur in response to:
- Critical security vulnerabilities requiring immediate patching.
- Hardware failures that need urgent replacement.
- Network issues affecting connectivity.
Maintenance Windows
Scheduled maintenance is typically performed during off-peak hours to minimise disruption:
- Primary window: Tuesday and Thursday, 02:00 to 06:00 GMT.
- Secondary window: Sundays, 00:00 to 06:00 GMT.
Most maintenance tasks are completed with zero or minimal downtime. If extended downtime is expected, we will notify you at least 48 hours in advance.
How We Notify You
- Email notifications: Sent to your registered email address with details of the maintenance.
- Status page: Real-time updates are posted on our status page during maintenance windows.
- Client area announcements: Important notices appear when you log in to the SillyHost client area.
Minimising Impact
To minimise the impact of maintenance on your visitors, consider using a CDN like Cloudflare which can serve cached versions of your site even if the origin server is temporarily unavailable.
