How to Request a Server Migration

Migrating to SillyHost

If you are moving your website from another hosting provider to SillyHost, our team can handle the migration for you. We offer free migrations for all new hosting customers to make the transition as smooth as possible.

What We Migrate

• Website files: All files in your public HTML directory and related folders.
• Databases: MySQL and MariaDB databases with full data integrity.
• Email accounts: Mailboxes and their contents (where technically possible).
• Cron jobs: Scheduled tasks are recreated on the new server.
• SSL certificates: We will install new Let's Encrypt certificates or transfer existing ones.

How to Request a Migration

1. Sign up for a hosting plan at SillyHost if you have not already.
2. Open a support ticket from your SillyHost client area.
3. Provide the following details:
   • Your current hosting provider's name.
   • Login credentials for your current hosting control panel (cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, etc.).
   • A list of websites and databases to migrate.
   • Any special requirements or configurations.
4. Our migration team will review your request and schedule the migration.
5. We will notify you once the migration is complete and ask you to verify everything before updating your DNS.

Migration Timeline

• Simple sites: Usually completed within 24 hours.
• Complex sites: Large databases or multiple websites may take 2 to 3 business days.
• Email migrations: Depending on mailbox sizes, this can take an additional 1 to 2 days.

After the Migration

1. Test your website thoroughly on the new server using a temporary URL or by modifying your local hosts file.
2. Once satisfied, update your domain's nameservers or A records to point to SillyHost.
3. Keep your old hosting account active for at least a week after switching to ensure a clean transition.
