Email Storage Quotas and Sending Limits
Every email account on your SillyHost hosting plan has storage quotas and sending limits. Understanding these helps you manage your email effectively and avoid disruptions.
Mailbox Storage Quotas
When you create an email account in cPanel, you set a mailbox quota — the maximum amount of disk space that account can use. This quota counts towards your overall hosting disk usage.
- Default quota: 1024 MB (1 GB) per mailbox unless you specify otherwise.
- Unlimited option: You can set the quota to unlimited, but be aware it will still be limited by your total hosting disk space.
- Warning threshold: cPanel sends automatic warnings when a mailbox reaches 80% and 90% of its quota.
What Happens When You Hit Your Quota
When a mailbox reaches its storage limit, new incoming emails will bounce back to the sender with a "mailbox full" error. The account holder will not receive the messages until space is freed up by deleting old emails or increasing the quota.
Sending Limits
To protect our servers from abuse and maintain good email reputation, SillyHost enforces the following sending limits:
- Maximum emails per hour: 500 emails per domain.
- Maximum recipients per message: 50 recipients per individual email.
- Maximum attachment size: 50 MB per email message (including all attachments).
Managing Your Quota
- Regularly delete old emails you no longer need, especially those with large attachments.
- Empty your Trash and Junk folders — these still count towards your quota.
- Use IMAP so you can manage and delete emails from any device and have changes reflected everywhere.
- Consider archiving important emails locally rather than keeping them on the server.
You can check your current mailbox usage in cPanel under Email Accounts, where each account shows its storage usage alongside the quota.
