Renewing Your Domain Name
Domains are registered for a fixed period, typically one to ten years. If you do not renew before expiry, your domain may become unavailable and could be registered by someone else. Here is how to keep your domain active.
Manual Renewal
- Log in to your SillyHost client area at
sillyhost.co.uk/portal. - Navigate to Domains > My Domains.
- Find the domain you wish to renew and click Renew.
- Select your renewal period (1 to 10 years).
- Complete the payment and your domain's expiry date will be extended.
Renewal Reminders
SillyHost sends automatic email reminders before your domain expires:
- 30 days before expiry – First reminder.
- 14 days before expiry – Second reminder.
- 7 days before expiry – Urgent reminder.
- 1 day before expiry – Final warning.
What Happens If Your Domain Expires
If you miss the renewal deadline, the following occurs:
- Grace period (1–30 days): You can still renew at the standard rate. Your website and email may stop working during this time.
- Redemption period (30–60 days): The domain can still be recovered but at a significantly higher cost.
- Pending delete (5 days): The domain is queued for release and cannot be recovered.
- Released: The domain becomes available for anyone to register.
Best Practice
We strongly recommend enabling auto-renewal so you never have to worry about accidentally losing your domain. See our separate guide on setting up domain auto-renewal for instructions.
