Install WordPress Using Softaculous
SillyHost includes the Softaculous auto-installer with every hosting plan, making WordPress installation a straightforward process that takes under two minutes.
Installation Steps
- Log in to your cPanel dashboard.
- Scroll down to the Software section and click on Softaculous Apps Installer.
- Find WordPress on the main page (it is usually featured prominently) and click Install.
- Configure the installation:
- Choose Protocol: Select
https://if you have SSL enabled (recommended). - Choose Domain: Select the domain or subdomain you want to install WordPress on.
- In Directory: Leave this blank to install on the main domain (e.g.,
yourdomain.co.uk). Enter a folder name likeblogto install atyourdomain.co.uk/blog. - Site Name and Description: Enter your website title and tagline.
- Admin Username: Choose a username that is not "admin" for security reasons.
- Admin Password: Use a strong, unique password.
- Admin Email: Enter a valid email address for password resets and notifications.
- Choose Protocol: Select
- Under Advanced Options, you can choose the database name and table prefix. The defaults are fine for most users.
- Click Install and wait for the process to complete.
After Installation
Once complete, Softaculous provides links to your new website and the WordPress admin panel. Your admin panel is typically located at yourdomain.co.uk/wp-admin. Bookmark this for easy access.
Recommended First Steps
- Delete the default "Hello World" post and sample page.
- Set your permalink structure under Settings > Permalinks (we recommend "Post name").
- Install a security plugin like Wordfence or Sucuri.
- Set up automatic backups through Softaculous or a plugin like UpdraftPlus.
